A little card with a big mantra and sacred word on it reminded me recently that I am still where I need to be! I have sung this mantra most of my life; it is called “HU,” a love song to God. It balances me and allows me to be more loving. You can get HU cards and give them as gifts to people who are struggling.1 My mother likes to put them in coffee shops. I like to put them up on bulletin boards in parks.

I moved to a new town almost three years ago. It is a very different culture and many people have different viewpoints and religious preferences than my own. Sometimes I feel alone and wonder why I am here. I have recently been reminded that I am here to be loving and a vehicle in the ever challenging and changing times. And though I may seem like an outsider at times, I am here to offer a friendly smile or chat and different perspective, and can provide a safe space for someone to talk about their struggle or share their feelings and thoughts.
I often walk at local parks like where I put the HU card almost three years ago. Every time I walk by the bulletin board and see the card, I am amazed it is still here! Perhaps even when we have different religious viewpoints, people can see how the HU is universal and will enhance your religion and not try to change it.
The HU belongs everywhere—even in a small town—and people respect the card to not take it down! I wrote a little poem about this encounter recently when I was yet again contemplating on my being and purpose in a different place in these difficult times. Seeing the card gave me reassurance that I am still here for a reason and will be here in this town to help as much as I can. Thanks for reading and take care!
We Are Still Here
I saw you there today,
A HU card I put up on the bulletin board over two years ago.
You are no longer bright and yellow,
But you are still here.
You remind me of me,
Being strong and loving,
Through the chaos and strife,
But I am still here.
We do what we can,
And plant seeds of love wherever we grow,
Always a place for us to shine and be open to others to help;
And we are still here!
