Michael Avery received a business degree from Linfield College in Oregon, where he also played shortstop on their 1971 National Championship baseball team. His post-college love of sports extended to Alpine skiing, tennis, and martial arts, earning a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He also studied Environmental Technology, specializing in non-chemical drinking water treatment.

Michael’s love of writing began with poetry while living in Hawaii in his late twenties. He authored six children’s picture books once back in the Pacific Northwest followed by The Secret Language of Waking Dreams, Michael’s first book on spirituality.

In 2005, Michael founded Susan Creek Books and published Touched by the Dragon’s Breath: Conversations at Colliding Rivers (2005), Porcupines at the Dance: Parables and Stories from Colliding Rivers (2008), and Wide Awake in Dreamland: A Journey Ends at Colliding Rivers (2012). These were written under the pseudonym, Michael Harrington.

After a rewarding career as a water quality specialist, Michael retired and began writing full time. In 2021, he married Pichaya, who shares his love of writing, spirituality, animals, and nature.

Pichaya Avery composed twelve songs and played electric guitar in a popular band while attending high school in Kalasin, Thailand. She was also the band’s lead singer. Pichaya majored in Linguistics and minored in Mass Communications at Ramkhamhaeng University. Upon graduation, she worked for Thailand’s largest bank prior to teaching English and serving as vice principal of a highly acclaimed bi-lingual school in Bangkok.

Pichaya moved to the U.S. in 1998. While living in California, she recruited American teachers for a bi-lingual school in Khon Khaen, Thailand, and worked as an interpreter at the Center for New Americans in Walnut Creek. After moving to Oregon, she became a Certified Life and Relationship Coach. Her former blog features insights on life, love, relationships, and personal growth.

In addition to raising three wonderful children, Pichaya’s interests include contemplation, spiritual growth, photography, playing the guitar, tennis, and walking in nature.

Riley Carson is retired and lives with his wife and two dogs in Oregon. He enjoys research, writing, creating digital art, taking walks, fitness, listening to music, and feeding the backyard birds and squirrels.

He is a lifelong meditator, journal writer, explorer of the world of dreams, and student of spiritual studies. His favorite artistic subjects are visions of transcendent realms, other worlds, and spiritual states of consciousness.
