Be the One (Song & Reflection)

Reading Time: 2 minutes

By Michael Avery

“Be the one who chooses love above all else.”

A short while after writing that line in the song, “Be the One,” I received word that a teammate from Linfield with whom I had played baseball was in hospice.

I’d gone over to McMinnville the previous month where Kip was living and was able to talk briefly with him. I was grateful that I had taken the opportunity to drive over to reminisce and say goodbye. A couple of weeks later, I decided to drive over again, and found that he was unable to speak.

Surprisingly, I received a gentle nudge to drive over a third time the following day. On the fifty minute drive, I wondered what would come out of another meeting. Upon arrival, I sat in my car and sang HU in a long, drawn out manner (HUuuuuu). It is an ancient love song that connects one directly to Divine Spirit regardless of religion or philosophy. I simply opened my heart and let the vibrations of love flow out for the good of the whole.

When I knocked on Kip’s door, neither his wife or son-in-law, who was often there helping out, answered. The apartment didn’t have a doorbell. I knocked a little louder, and, again, there was no response. As I sat in my car writing a brief note to leave on their door, I sang HU and said “May the blessings be.” It was time to let go with love.

I learned later in the day that my friend had made his transition from this life at approximately the same time I’d been sitting in my car singing HU. I had seen and heard an ambulance as I pulled in to the apartment complex. It had turned down a different row of buildings, but I took this as a sign—a waking dream—telling me that my friend had been taken to the hospital.

I’m thankful that I followed my inner guidance and drove back to McMinnville that afternoon. Divine Spirit works through each of us; the vibration of the HU is a powerful channel through which the blessings of love flow into the world. Kip and his family likely needed some extra love and support that day.

Divine Spirit often nudges us to go the extra mile for love. Earlier in life, I missed many opportunities to serve others, especially when it was difficult or inconvenient to do so. What I’ve learned: Be the one who follows through when Spirit makes a subtle request.

“When clouds block out the sun, be the one who shines. Be the one!”

Centered in love ~ the HU when sung with the intent to ‘be that’ forever touches the singer and the world.
    Wonderful story & song, Michael!

Thank you, Gloria. The world needs more people opening their heart with HU so love can flow where it needs to flow. Even if I wanted to direct it and that was allowed, I wouldn’t have a clue where to begin. Lots of past discretions now being balanced, especially in the Western nations. HUuuuu!

This opened my heart today ! Thank you so Michael ~ your willingness & capability to share your gifts continues to grow exponentially. And I, for one, among the many bask in it. Something I remember hearing about going the extra mile … don’t be afraid to go the extra mile, it’s never crowded. What a perfect little song of love !
