An unforgettable experience on New Year’s Eve in 2011 taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of carefully following the Inner Teacher’s guidance. After I kissed my children goodnight, I read a few passages in a book about love and retired for the night. I tossed and turned. Feeling restless, I was unable to sleep until suddenly, at midnight, a strong inner nudge prompted me to check my Facebook page. There was only one message, an urgent request from a friend in Jordon asking me to respond as soon as possible.
Jouri was confronted with a serious personal crisis. She described in detail how she had contemplated several different ways to take her own life. I contacted her immediately and asked if she would like to meet on Skype even though it was 1:00 a.m. in Oregon.
When we connected, I could tell by her eyes that she had been crying for many hours. She told me that her life was not working. Her relationship, health, career, and finances were collapsing all at once. There was no point in living anymore. I listened with compassion as she poured out her heart.
She asked, “Can you help me?”
I replied, “I am happy to help you in any way I can.” Jouri informed me that she had studied her Bible, but God had not answered her prayers. She felt forsaken. “I need a prayer,” she pleaded.
“Would you be interested in a new form of prayer?” I asked her.
“Anything,” she replied.
I introduced her to the song of HU. As she sang along with me, she felt an immediate shift in her consciousness. She told me that a wave of warm love had enveloped her entire body, and the heaviness in her heart was lifted. At that moment, for the first time in several months of despair, she felt at peace. Wiping her tears, she added, “You have saved my life. I want to live.”
“In times of trouble, please remember to sing HU,” I reminded her. “It will continue to heal your heart and allow you to view your challenges from a higher perspective.”
There is no greater joy than making a difference in someone’s life. Jouri and I were brought together by the Inner Teacher, two Facebook friends living on opposite sides of the world, to share the love and support we receive from singing HU. It is a gift from the Inner Teacher that opens everyone’s heart regardless of race, religion, or distance between them. This beautiful love song even touches the hearts of animals.
