I recently moved from Flagstaff where Springtime is nice with a few pink flowered trees, and budding out of the Cottonwood trees, to Hood River where it is exploding with color. Trees with a pink tulip looking flower at the end of each branch, white flowering trees on every corner and peach and apple trees beginning to bud with tiny green fingers reaching for the sun.
In the courtyard where I live are stands of bright yellow daffodils, soft yellow bushes and purple flowers. My urge to pick them and enjoy them in my home is barely overridden by the thought that these flowers are for the enjoyment of everyone.
One exception reminded me of an even greater spiritual principle. After a hard rain, three of the daffodils and one purple flower were bent over by the cleansing downpour. Broken off from the source of life, they were beginning to wilt. I picked them and took them to my apartment where they only lasted two or three days, but were enjoyed immensely by me.
This reminded me of why I sing the HU song. Every day upon awakening and every night before sleep, I sing this sweet sound that keeps me connected to the source of Life, the Light and Sound of God. Should I get busy and forget or just do it without love and gratitude for Life, I lose a little of this connection, and end up like these bent flowers, cut off from their Divine Source.
Yes, Spring is a time for renewal, a time for reconfirming my love for life, and like the flowers and trees, a time for renewing my connection with the Source of life. For me, this amounts to singing HU, my love song to God with even greater vigor. Singing HU for me is as Life giving as the sun is to the trees and flowers. And it has the same effect on me. As I renew my vows of Love to my Creator, I blossom as Soul.
HU, an ancient name for God, can be sung by anyone from any religion to enliven their connection to the Divine within themselves.
