“BE”

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Guest Post by Jim Jackson

This morning I was sifting through my journal of 2021 when I came across a page I’d written on April 15th of that year.  The title I gave it was “BE.”

I was speaking with my good friend, Phyllis, yesterday, when she said, “This getting old is not much fun anymore at some times.” She is 92 and has several major health issues – and lives alone on her 4 acre farm. I replied, “Ya’ll, tell me about it.”

She said that it was so hard to “hold back” on doing things around her home and property. Things others might consider WORK, but to her they were just acts of caring that she has always loved to do. But now, she can go only so far or she over does her new level of physical strength and stamina capabilities – and she can pay a heavy price over the next several days it takes for her to recover.

She gets going on a project – whether mowing her lawns or pastures, repairing a fence, picking fruit from her orchard, or trimming hedges and bushes, but now finds things being different. She said, “Before, when I began a project, I finished it that day. Now, I just can’t follow that old thought or command of yesterday,  “Oh, I can finish that one more section or that last fence post.”

She said, “I have to realize and be in my new circumstances as a “spiritual being,” now in an aging physical body in this materialistic world. Although I really dislike this change so very much, I understand it is part of life, and I have a great opportunity to be in this situation – NOW, as maybe experiencing aging for the first time from the viewpoint as an ECKist.“

“Maybe when I forget my age and health problems and keep on doing work, I’m really Soul just ‘being’– being happy, thankful, and full of love and peace of mind.”

All I can say is, right on, girl!

(My good friend, Phyllis, translated in February of this year, 3 weeks short of her 95th birthday.)

With love and fond memories,  Jim J

Jim, I wish I had known Phyllis. She’s my type of person! I’m sure she’s honored that you’ve written about her.
