It was July in eastern Washington and the early fruit was just starting to ripen. One of my Native American coworkers mentioned to me his uncle had a huge cherry tree in his backyard that was ready to pick. The old man loved cherries but was hoping someone could use some before the birds got them or they fell on the ground. As I love fresh cherries, I told him I was just the guy that could help him with that.

Song of the Soul (Song)

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Since ancient times, mystics and seekers have spoken of a sacred sound—a living melody that flows through all of existence. Some describe it as celestial music, a subtle current of energy that calls the soul homeward. It is said that those who listen deeply may hear it as a whisper in the wind, a distant hum, or a chorus of unseen harmonies.

Song of the Soul is inspired by this idea—the notion that beyond the noise of everyday life, there exists a sound that nourishes, uplifts, and connects us to something greater than ourselves. This song is an invitation to listen—not just with the ears, but with the heart—to the music that has always been playing within.

This haiku arrived while making soup; they ‘whispered’ and I heard.
Every moment can be a miracle… when we’re open to what appears before & within us.

In this YouTube video (22 minutes long), a man named Shaman Oaks relates his extraordinary near death experience. During the experience, his spiritual guide taught him ten things to know about life. Here are eight of them listed in order of importance according to Shaman’s guide:

How Are You Living Your Life Purpose?

Today, I read another story about researchers’ scientific efforts to cure or slow down Alzheimer’s. Many such articles catch my attention. It’s impressive how so many focus on this malady.

Loved ones rarely, if ever, have the capacity to understand their condition. It’s far too complex for anyone in their “right mind” to accept it without going through layers and layers of experiences words cannot encompass. Perhaps one day there will be ways to see then stop the brain’s ‘de-fragging.’

“Your task is not to seek love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
Rumi

These barriers to which Rumi refers are numerous. Going through life unaware of these barriers is like driving an expensive sports car along a steep mountain road wearing blindfolds, not just one, but many.

Just Ask

As I was awakening one morning, still in the in-between state of not really being awake or asleep, I realized that my life has been an adventure in “experiencing”. There are more than a few teachers, gurus, and scientists who think that experiencing is consciousness. That’s a pretty interesting concept in itself. Yes, my life is about my experiences in this human state of consciousness.

New Insights from NDE Interviews

I often get new insights on life by listening to NDE interviews. I found the following two lessons gave a valuable perspective.

Lesson One

After the lady left her body and was met by her spiritual guide, the guide had her go through hundreds of moments of her current life, but with a twist from the usual life review.

We Meet On Sacred Ground (In Lak’ech): Song

“In Lak’ech Ala K’in,” often shortened to “In Lak’ech,” is a greeting derived from the Mayan philosophy of unity and the interconnectedness of all things. The phrase translates to “I am you, and you are me,” or “You are a reflection of myself.” Often the right hand is placed over the heart at this exchange.

Seasons of Life

Guest Post by Dennis Ernst

The seasons of my life were passing quickly and I found myself late in fall. Days, like leaves blown from their tree, let go and followed the wind as it gusted and swirled into the future. Gone was the healthy image I had embodied, and the robust outdoorsman I once was had become a shadow of the past.

In the present moment, I had become a well-grayed senior with an unsteady gait, rambling along. Even the cool morning air seemed different now. As I scanned the surroundings, I noticed that things were changing fast.
