Feelings Flowing Free (Song)

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Guest Post by Riley Carson

This song was inspired by the poetry of Kabir, who lived in India in the 15th century. He was critical of organized religions, and what he considered their meaningless and unethical practices. Instead, he taught that truth is within each sincere person.

His poetry is full of his mystic experiences, and his devotion to the Divine. One day after re-reading many of his poems, I felt inspired to compose this song, drawing on some of Kabir’s metaphors. —Riley

So Much Love to Give

The game hadn’t gone well, and there was much frustration, some strong emotions, and tempers had flared. Even though we had played together for years, the air was fraught with tension.

A Loving Heart (Song)

This song serves as a poignant reminder of love’s transformative power. The inner heart, filled with love, acts as a bridge between our earthly selves and the divine essence within. The lyrics came to me with remarkable ease; once the title emerged, the words seemed to pour forth of their own accord, requiring little conscious effort on my part.

Even though I have been on my spiritual path for a very long time and have witnessed a myriad of miracles, I am still amazed when life brings me gifts and answers to questions in miraculous ways.

Bamboo & the Sound of Love

I am a Rumi fan, but have only read his shorter works, having never tackled one of his best known poems, “The Reed.” So I decided to write a poem as if I did know what The Reed was about and this is the result.

But what is interesting is that “Bamboo” was written years before our home burned in an urban wildfire. It is as if I was being given strength to understand what that experience was all about before it happened and know that I, too, would become the flute.

America & Life—I Love You

I seldom focus on our nation’s history, yet every citizen who lives here has lives that intertwine.

The ‘fact’ we didn’t “have” to go to war with England to eventually gain our freedom was the focus of my 2nd date with Wes, who became my future husband.

Blessing: A divine favor, or something made holy (Webster’s 2nd Dictionary).

2019 was the ECK “Year of Blessings.” The year before, 2018, was the “Year of Giving.” One can recognize the continuity: in order to receive love, one must first give love.

Given to Love

One day a priest stopped by the cabin of a prophet asking for donations. The money, he explained, would buy chairs for his church. The name of each donor was to be inscribed on a brass plate and then attached to the back of each chair in recognition of the giver.
