Divine Spirit Helps Us When We Ask

Reading Time: 4 minutes

By Michael Avery

People come up with any number of reasons for not asking for assistance: “I don’t want to bother anyone;” “I’m not worthy of help (love);” “I can do it myself,” etc. But, for the most part, people just forget to ask.

Pichaya and I have learned that Divine Spirit, Spirit, or “the Universe,” call it what you like, won’t interfere in our lives unless we ask.

Confirmations & “Yes or No” Answers

When faced with an important decision, we can ask for guidance through dreams, contemplations, visions, or waking dreams. Often, waking dream symbols are the easiest to recognize and interpret. We can receive Yes or No answers almost instantly once we know how easy and fun communicating with Spirit can be.

For example, we might ask: “Are readers resonating with the topics we’ve posted on our blog so far? Please answer Yes by sending the symbol of a large white feather and/or a bird perched on the very top of a tree. Please send a small grey feather if we need to revise or reformat our approach.”

Shortly after citing this example, Pichaya and I walked outside where she pointed to an unusual cloud formation. Without knowing what I had written minutes before, she asked, “Doesn’t that cloud look like a large white feather?”

This is Pichaya’s photo of the feather in the sky that morning.

Amazingly, it did! Although I had not expected a response, I knew that Divine Spirit was answering the question I had posed in my example.

An hour later, we decided to go for a walk and stopped at a wooden bench overlooking a small stream. A crow flew across the sky in front of us and landed in the uppermost branch of a nearby tree. I interpreted this as an additional sign from Spirit, confirming that we were on the right track with our topics.

Eyes of a Moth

As I was drafting this post, an email arrived from a friend with the photo of a giant moth. Her sister in New York had taken the photo. “That’s unusual,” I thought, without realizing that Spirit was telling me something through this uncommon event.

Pichaya and I had recently sent a link to our site to someone in New York and were wondering if they had taken the time to read it. Since we are always on the lookout for waking dreams, Spirit interprets this as “asking.” Here is the photo of the moth. Let’s see if you can decipher its message considering what we were wondering.

Should I Travel at this Time?

We may also inquire about travel plans. For example, one might open a dialogue with Divine Spirit saying, “We are planning a trip to Europe in the summer of 2023. Please send the symbol of “wet paint” in the next two weeks if the answer is “Wait.”

Divine Spirit might use an alternate means of getting the point across in addition to our chosen symbol. For example, we might call a restaurant for reservations and be placed on hold for an extended period of time. Or, we could find ourselves stuck at a railroad crossing waiting for a train to pass.

One important thing my wife and I have learned: Divine Spirit has no limitations in communicating with us. We can choose any symbolsimple, complicated, or downright crazyand Spirit will find a way to answer us.

Limitations are solely on our end. With unlimited possibilities at our fingertips, we recommend choosing symbols that are colorful, fun, and positive. Selecting a symbol such as a “train derailment” may cause unforeseen harm and incur a debt to life that one day must be balanced.

Is My Presentation Appropriate?

Here’s another example of how asking can be helpful. We are planning a talk at a spiritual retreat on the subject of Divine Guidance. We can ask Spirit well in advance of that date if our key points are appropriate for our presentation. We then go about our life watchful for guidance.

If one of our stories revolves around a miraculous event that happened when we were young, Divine Spirit might send us a series of synchronous events confirming the relevance of our story.

It might bring the word “miraculous” into our awareness through a book we are guided to open at random, or a call from a friend who tells us that a relative’s recovery from an illness was “miraculous.” We might also turn on the radio and hear the song “Miracles” by Jefferson Starship.

While most of our friends would pass these synchronicities off as mere coincidence, those of us who understand how Divine Spirit communicates with symbols will benefit greatly.

A Unique Language

The language of waking dreams is unique to each person. For example, to both Pichaya and me, the large white feather mentioned earlier is a positive symbol associated with writing. Feathers were used before fountain pens came along by the way.

Divine Spirit often brings large white feathers into our awareness to confirm that we are on the right track regarding something we’ve written or to remind us that it’s once again time to write. The large white feather image doubles as a clear confirmation sign for us, a symbolic “thumbs up” from Spirit. Seeing eagles and rainbows are confirmations as well.

If Spirit brings you a large white feather after reading this, it may be telling you to “pick up a pen” or to confirm that a recent decision is “on the right track.” But a large white feather could symbolize something entirely different to you. Is this symbol related to anything from your pasta person, place, event, or thing?

Once we decide on the meaning of a symbol, it will then be added automatically into our personal waking dream vocabulary. From that point forward, Divine Spirit can use the symbol for communicating messages of guidance, insight, confirmation, or warning, providing we ask of course.

Excellent Mike! I really liked your examples, they painted a very clear picture for me.

Thank you Mike and Pichaya for illustrating clearly in words and pictures how Divine
Spirit, or the Universe can assist us. Because of a book you wrote on this topic Mike, last night I asked Spirit if I could see a symbol of a palm tree, if I should accept an
invitation to stay with a friend in Honduras.
Your note today reminds me to continue this way of asking for help with turning
    points I am facing.

Jim, thank you for your kind comment. In addition to the waking dream symbols mentioned in the post, comments like yours also tell Pichaya and me that “we’re on the right track” with our posts!

Elizabeth, thank you for sharing your symbol of a palm tree with us. I’d be interested to know if it comes up as confirmation of your trip to Honduras.

A most important thing I’ve learned since writing The Secret Language of Waking Dreams: Divine Spirit has no limitations. It can easily bring you a palm tree symbol or a “wet paint” symbol if it’s best for you to wait.

  5. Good reminders! Sometimes one may think of asking Spirit what symbol to look for
in response to their question or situation. A desired response may or may not come.
It is well to be specific as you have explained. I have had good response both ways.
But Divine Spirit has greater insight and clarity in all instances as the Source for information right for the individual. Sometimes what is given can be deeply compelling spiritually, perhaps most unusual, and for me often, very humorous.
I get a lot of response through the lyrics of songs also, that uninvited begin playing in my head. I will start to sing along eventually and depending on my awareness in the moment, how long it takes for me to realize Spirit is sending me a personal message
that is important in the nowness of my life. Many ways to learn, and many days to get better at it! What a blessing! <3

Thank you, Sammie. That would be a great post about how song lyrics playing in your head can be “messages from Divine Spirit!”

We love your posts, thank you both!
