Have you ever wondered how real dreams are, or how real they could be? I had been monitoring my dreams for two or three years and found my experiences to be fascinating. Interpreting dreams, lucid dreams, and waking dreams had opened many new possibilities.
Some dreams felt more real than my waking life, and others so far removed they were a stretch of my imagination. Then came a dream that put a whole new perspective on dreaming and eliminated any doubt.
I was working as an engineer in a small office, and during summer construction season work would get very busy. That day, I had a meeting with a field engineer and inspector. There had been a few things come up we didn’t foresee in the design phase, and I wanted to go through the plans and specifications before going to the job.
I went to my office over an hour early so I’d have a bit of quiet time before the work day began. I had a desk in a back corner of the office which gave me a little privacy.
A little while before opening time, our secretary came in, turned on all the lights, and started some coffee. The owner of the office came in and started working at his desk. A little before opening time a contractor on one of my projects came in a bit early and requested a change order as he’d found something that wasn’t on the plans. The owner told him I would have to look at it and approve it first. He wasn’t happy, but left.
Then the strangest thing happened. I woke up and found myself in bed!
This had never happened to me before, as I was always the first one at work or on a project. I dresses and headed for the project as fast as I could. I was pretty shaken that I had overslept, but arrived on the job not long after the contractor got there. He told me he had found something that wasn’t on the plans and the owner had approved a change order. Without thinking I responded that he had just been to our office and the owner told him that I was to look at it and decide if it was extra work or not.
His face reflected disbelief, and he told me there was no way I could have known that since I wasn’t there. As I had reviewed the documents in the office that morning, I cited the section of the specifications that clearly spelled out that it was work included in the contract and there was no change order needed. He was fuming but checked out the specifications and discovered that I was right. He still called the owner and complained about me using some trickery on him as I wasn’t there at the meeting.
Back at the office, the owner ask me about what had happened that morning. I told him that the contractor hadn’t read the contract documents carefully and just wanted some extra money. He had a very perplexed look on his face, but didn’t ask any more.
That evening at home, when I was going over the events of the day, I knew this had been a very special experience. Now, there was no room to doubt the reality of dreams and waking dreams, and it was time to accept the responsibility that goes with it.
Dreams are real!

Thank you, Dennis, for sharing your story. I and my wife once co-facilitated dream classes at the Temple of ECK in Chanhassen Minnesota. Always a joy for us to listen to people share their dreams experiences. One day a man came to our class declaring that he never dreamed. Several weeks later he remarked that he had had ‘hand writers’ cramps from journalling all his dreams, which showed how Holy Spirit works with dreamers on their inner as well as outer lives.
