Grace

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Guest Post by Gloria Lionz

For over 25 years, I’ve written and shared a Christmas season poem with family and friends.

Each year Spirit leads. I begin by asking the Universe what that year’s theme will be. The wording of my question changes but the intent remains: “What theme does Spirit want me to explore?” And, “how can what I share about it so my words help the reader better realize their link to life’s gifts?”

Mid-November 2024 I barely had time to utter my question before I saw the word GRACE emblazoned across my inner vision. This time felt different; rather than a phrase or two it was just the word GRACE. It was huge—the size of a billboard!

However engaging writing is for me, capturing the ‘voice’ of a poem is always a journey. Insights of the heart don’t reside in the AI world.  For me, writing requires me to ask then listen for what matters most.

Each word or phrase enlivens my awareness.  Sometimes what’s waiting to be shared arrives quickly. But nothing gets shared until it’s fully formed. How do I know when a piece is done? Easy. My heart tells me; the words sparkle inside as I read and re-read each stanza.

In a way, it’s a spiritual exercise: Am I discerning enough so that what I write echoes love in the heart long after the poem turns to dust?

Grace took a few weeks before I got the directive to sit & write “her” message. The final stanza took two days; but once they landed on the page, my heart smiled. The intent was complete; the reader was reminded they possess what they need to be ‘their own best friend’ and in turn, to be GRACE.

GRACE

Impeccable timing
Shows up prepared
Curious and open
Relishing your “you…”

Refined as a geisha
Nuanced observer
Impeccable ear
Never in a rush

Tender-eyed eagle
Spots your golden heart
Returns it with a smile
Wherever you left it

Loves what matters
Appreciates what you cherish
Highlights your brilliance
Laughs with you

Hugs you back into shape
Celebrates your courage
No gender, no age
Just like you on good days…

Sees the best in everyone
Believes in magic
Owns their worth
Mirrors that in you

When in their presence
You shine like a star
Grace is your best friend
The one who welcomes you home

That kimono you wear?
It’s lovely adornment
But when Grace is near ~
Your heart becomes liquid silk…

Invite Grace to tutor you
Practice sparkling just because…
Be your own best friend
Soon you too will be Grace

Two things I especially love about your poem; the shiny imagery, and the meter and rhythm. It went down like a fine blend of fresh fruit juices, sparkling and refreshing. Gracias for sharing! Al.

Relishing your “you…” has a special ring. “How can I be graceful when I focus too much on the little self, the ego? Love and service seem to play a role in becoming Grace. TY Gloria. Some fine images to contemplate upon!

Your poem about grace is uplifting, giving me so much to think about and contemplate, Gloria. Being grace means being a channel of divine love for myself and all living things! Thank you for sharing it.
