The Inner Teacher always leads me to the right place at the right time to meet the right people in order to become a greater instrument of divine love. The key is to pay close attention to the inner guidance moment by moment, even when it seems incomprehensible and illogical to the analytical mind. When I follow a subtle nudge, the Inner Teacher can touch someone’s heart profoundly, through me, in many amazing ways.
It was around Christmas time, and the grocery store was fully packed with impatient shoppers. One of those customers who felt irritated with the long lines at the checkout stands happened to be me. While silently complaining, I received a specific message from the Inner Teacher, “Go to lane six.”
Why was he telling me to go to the longest line which had three more customers than any of the rest? I wondered.
Nonetheless, I followed the inexplicable instructions. As I studied the face of my cashier, I heard the Inner Teacher whisper, “When it’s your turn, ask her, “How is your day going?”
All staff members of this store are trained to greet each customer with, “Did you find everything okay?”
Before she could speak, I inquired, “How is your day going?” She looked at me with tears in her eyes and responded, “Not so good. I just broke up with my boyfriend.”
I suddenly realized why I had been directed to her lane. “Can I give you a hug?” I asked the woman.
Stepping out from behind her check stand, she wiped her tears. With her arms open wide, she reached out to me. “Yes, please. I really need it,” she sobbed.
Listening for the Inner Teacher’s guidance is an essential key to being HU. By following the explicit instructions, I was able to share the Inner Teacher’s love with this woman in the form of a hug. Besides a smile and a hug, a kind word can brighten someone’s day and even change a person’s life.
