Our true destiny is to link beyond the confines of the three-dimensional world and to do so in a grounded, mature way. The poem is a brief invitation to each reader to release the need to make sense of the outer and realize EVERYONE is needed and WELCOMED to STAND TALL as we live our true spiritual purpose.
In my early 30’s I spent a year studying spiritual tenants with a devotee of Love. She wasn’t affiliated with any church teaching. She dedicated her life to helping seekers deepen and expand their sense of self and their connection to spirit. In our first session, she had me close my eyes and share what came through.
What I saw and heard lives in me still. I met someone who called himself Archangel Michael. I was standing with him and several other beings overlooking a huge globe, a golden railing surrounding us at waist height. From where we stood, we saw and felt endless waves of energy from below, prayers and pleas for help from beings residing in multi-universes.
The scene shifted. Next, he showed me what looked like us standing in a circle above the Earth. I asked, “Why am I being shown this scene?”
Slowly and succinctly, he replied, “Your destiny is to understand how to work with the light you carry so that it touches others without interfering. That is what true mastery is in your world. There are other planes of existence where this remedial training is not required. But that is your task. How you choose to live and bring it into form is yours to design.”
Why do I remember these words? Because they helped me begin to change my way of being—to move beyond judgments of right and wrong, power versus love.
I studied with this wonderful teacher for about a year. Then I became very ill. In prayer, I asked what I call “God” to help me find a cure for ulcerative colitis. I refused surgery despite the physician’s dire warnings that without it I could die a painful death. I walked out of his clinic after our second visit. While there, he administered nine hours of IV medications. Rather than admitting me to the hospital for urgent care, he refused to take that step. Why? My condition had forced him to alter his plans that day. Or, as he put it, I’d “ruined his afternoon golf date.”
Although I was frightened and in extreme pain, I went home and earnestly asked for guidance. The answer I received led me a few days later to an acupressure clinic and meeting the first member of Eckankar. A few weeks later, standing in her office before our next acupressure session, I asked, “Why whenever I’m here, do I feel like I’m in the ocean of love and mercy?” She chuckled and handed me a book about Eckankar. The rest of that tale is ‘history.’ Our meeting, orchestrated by asking for help, introduced me to Eckankar and the HU.1 Showing me new ways to ‘be’ in the world but not of it. Learning to love without losing myself and healing patterns that kept me locked in pain and fear.
What’s true?
No one “needs” the HU to receive God’s love; it is always present. Any boundaries we perceive are self-imposed. The rest of our journey is all about our ability to accept and give love.
What I know now is that singing HU can help anyone connect to Divine Love. It’s a universal sound, whose energy has helped me move into spheres of love I never knew existed.
That’s what the “Mahanta,” my spiritual teacher, shared at this year’s Soul Adventure Seminar.
This poem is for everyone. The words poured in the morning after he spoke.
My hope is that all who read it recognize THEIR LIGHT, THEIR LOVE, THEIR WISDOM.
We are the ones who make this world a place of beauty, balance and grace.
We are the Souls who need to “Stand Tall” with ourselves, one another and wherever we feel led to serve.
May the blessings be.

Stand Tall
The Master has spoken
A new year begun
Now surrounded by love
Stepping into the sun
Life is a blessing
A challenge, a dance
YOU are the hero
Soul’s wisdom advanced
When you get amnesia
Take a breath—sing HU
You’re here for a purpose
And it’s “Not about You!”
Wise beyond measure
Infused with compassion
Stand tall and be counted
Love’s steadfast champions

1. Eckankar is a new religious movement founded by Paul Twitchell in 1965. It is a non-profit religious group with members in over one hundred countries. The spiritual home is the Temple of Eck in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Eckankar is not affiliated with any other religious group. The movement teaches simple spiritual exercises, such as singing “Hu”, called “a love song to God”, to experience the Light and Sound of God and recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Wonderful poem, Gloria. I loved the part about Archangel Michael’s reply to your question. How to help without interfering is a huge challenge at times. I’ve also found that singing HU is one way to add love and light to a situation without trying to dictate an outcome.
