Life will flow better once we understand how to extract every ounce of wisdom from those experiences we so readily label as “bad.” The trick is to “lean in.”

Giving an unpleasant experience our full attention sounds counterproductive and a little crazy, kind of like leaning into a roundhouse punch. Why not just ignore it and watch some old reruns of “Seinfeld?”

Because. dear friends, the unpleasant experience will follow us with the dogged determination of a “Terminator.”

The experience may appear differently in the future, but at its core, it’s the same old replaying memory begging for our attention. You see, it craves love and it knows love will heal it.

Once we stop running from unpleasant experiences and lean into them, we’ll reap great rewards and be forever free of them. Not only that, we’ll be free of all the other similar experiences we carry with us in our subconsciousion mind!

The key is understanding how the “Mirror of Life” works. Although we’re quick rush to blame, it’s NEVER, EVER the other person who is the problem. It’s ALWAYS us. The Soul playing the role of an irritant has been kind enough to reflect back to us something we need to balance in our own subconscious, sometimes called the “Belief System” or “Karmic Seedbed.”

Of course, we don’t really enjoy facing these unpleasant memories from our past that we created outside of love. But once we take full responsibility for every aspect of our lives, the door to a better “present” swings open and we can rapidly learn what we missed before and heal the memory with love and understanding. This is the essence of Ho’oponopono.

While attending a certification seminar with other water works personnel from around the county, one workshop facilitator asked if anyone had a boss that was intrusive, micro-managed, or encroached into his workers space. Most had good things to report, but a few people complained. I remember one man in particular who described in detail all the shortcomings of his supervisor. He had quite a list.

I had been studying Ho’oponopono for a time, and understood that the man speaking was describing all of his own faults! His supervisor was simply a reflection of these. Obviously, the man didn’t realize how the Mirror of Life works, or he probably would have kept quiet. These character flaws were created sometime in his past from erroneous thinking and were hiding in his subconscious mind. These qualities may not have even been present is his current life.

The memories were replaying for him now, not to be a pain in the you-know-what, but to offer him yet another chance to learn and heal. If the man opts to switch jobs, he’ll encounter another individual similar to his old boss.

So, how do we handle situations like this when life gives us another chance to clean up our inner house?

Rather than complain, run away and hide, or confront a controlling boss, we can use love and understanding to eliminate every past experience that we have created similar to this one outside of love. Had the man done this, his boss would have given him a different reflection or another, more respectful boss would have taken his place.

With Ho’oponopono, we simply acknowledge that the problem is not in the outer world with another person, it is located in our own Belief System. Once we take full responsibility, we send love, not to the person in the outer world, but to our own creation from the past—the memory that is replaying. The memory wants us to send it love, and then free it from its prison in the Belief System.

Dr. Hew Len, who brought Ho’oponopono to the attention of the world, gave us a simple four-part formula to balance erroneous thoughts in our subconscious mind, those replaying as problems in our life.

“I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you.”

Once we have welcomed our memories back to love with this simple formula, our Belief System will be transmuted by the divinity within ourselves (I AM Presence) to reflect our new understanding. Love is a high vibration, and will transmute anything of a lower nature.

Dr. Len related that once our Belief System is clean, our life will flow gracefully and easily, and the world will reflect back to us ONLY LOVE.

If you would like to learn more about Ho’oponopono, you can watch some of Dr. Hew Len’s videos on YouTube. He came to prominence when he was featured in Zero Limits, a book by Joe Vitale.

To recap: When someone rubs us the wrong way, it’s not them. They are doing us a favor by reflecting what we need to learn and balance next in our Belief System. They are helping us return the memory to “Zero Point,” the place of stillness and unity.

Lean in. You will find some sparkling gems once you begin practicing this Ho’oponopono approach. But no one can dig them out but you!
