I attended a leadership conference in Vermont in June. It took me 29 hours to reach my final destination. Yes, I ‘flew’ there but the ‘schedule’ changed according to Spirit (not as advertised by the airline carrier). Chalk this TIRING EXPERIENCE up to Holy Spirit’s ‘way’ of arranging things for me to meet an entirely different group of people; sharing heart-to-heart stories as well as commiserating about mutual travel challenges.
My first plane was supposed to take off at 10:15 am on a Wednesday. But after boarding & deplaning twice (due to myriad mechanical warnings) the 3rd plane was declared ‘flight ready’ at 1:15 am the following morning! Obviously I missed the original connecting flight. Even that plane got to the next airport 2 hours past scheduled landing. I was told the next flight available didn’t leave til 10 pm that night. A rather stoic gate keeper, after listening to my tale, upgraded me to a first class seat in a plane that left just 2 hours later.
So what inspired this poem? Simple. While waiting for the first flight to take off, I repeatedly checked in; asking if it was NECESSARY that I attend the conference in Vermont. Each time, the answer was the same: “Go!”
Once I arrived at the beautiful Stowe Vermont Inn, I asked Spirit to please ‘fill me in’ on what I’d learned.
This poem didn’t just ‘slide slowly into view.’ NOPE! It arrived fully formed as I was dressing for Friday morning’s first meeting. It didn’t matter that my body/mind were still unwinding from my trip.
What mattered? SPIRIT heard and lucidly RESPONDED…
The icing on the top of this poem? I shared it with everyone the final day of the conference.
The Gift? It mirrored the theme of the gathering: To provide hope to all leaders whose endeavors are based on service and love.
Now that’s what I call being EXACTLY AT THE RIGHT PLACE AND TIME no matter HOW MANY delays we experience!
